THE LUSATIAN GRASS
The two core band-members: Karolina Stránská (songwriting, vocals, mandolin, guitar) and Tomáš Kejklíček (songwriting, vocals, guitar, clawhammer and 3-finger style banjo, upright bass, piano) met in 1996 and since that time they have been closely cooperating and working together on bringing and performing their distinctive way of playing and singing bluegrass, old-time and country music.
Most of the effort is focused on writing, producing and performing band’s own original and authentic stuff in bluegrass, old-time and country styles; both Tom and Karolina write, sing, play and present their songs and instrumentals. The essential attention is given to harmony singing and personal emotional authenticity while performing only in English.
During all the band’s career 7 CDs have been released up until now, containing strictly original material of almost 60 songs and tunes (except of one Bill Monroe’s piece and one traditional), and some European countries visited to introduce its music there (Germany, Holland, Norway, Hungary, Slovakia, France). The group is named after the Lusatian Mountains (Lužické hory) on the Bohemia-Germany-Poland border, which is the homeland of the band.
